Black-Eyed Pea & Country Ham Chowder

Ingredients:
1 ½ cups onions, diced
1 jalapeno pepper, ribs & seeds removed and finely chopped
1 cup celery, diced
1 cup carrot, diced
3 cups cooked ham (or 1 large ham steak), chopped
1 can chicken broth
1 t. garlic powder
1 T. thyme
1 t. celery salt
1 t. pepper
1 bay leaf
2 cans black-eyed peas, drained
2 potatoes, peeled and diced
1 cup half & half

Instructions:
In a crockpot, add onions, jalapenos, celery, carrots and ham. Stir in chicken broth, thyme, garlic, celery salt, pepper, bay leaf and black-eyed peas and potatoes. Cook on low setting for 4 hours. Pour in half & half and cook on high an additonal 30 minutes. Remove bay leaf before serving.Even better with a large slice of corn bread for dunking.
