Tips for Preserving the Life of Your Fruits!
Fruits ripen quicker at room temperature. Preserve freshness by storing all fruit (except bananas and tomatoes) in the refrigerator.
To avoid mold, do not wash your fruits until just before serving or mixing into a fruit salad.
Lemon juice sprinkled over sliced fruit preserves the color- great for sliced bananas in a banana pudding! The acid in the juice keeps the banana from turning brown or greyish in color.
To ripen fruit:
Most fruits are picked when they are mature, but not completely ripe.
To speed up the ripening process: place fruit in a paper bag and fold over the top to close. Leave the fruit at room temperature, checking it daily. Your fruit is ripe with it emits a sweet aroma and is soft to the touch. If you keep several varieties of fruit together in the bag, such as peaches, banananas, nectarines, etc they will ripen even faster.
